Margaret Whittum
 
Margaret Whittum has directed The Zoo Story, Into the Woods, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and True West, among others.  Favorite roles include Willy Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Toinette in The Imaginary Invalid, the Witch in Into the Woods, and Fruma-Sarah in Fiddler on the Roof.

Margaret has directed in Seoul, Edinburgh, Denver, Colorado Springs, and across Canada. She has written two original shows, Love the Radio Edit, a one-act comedy performed entirely in song lyrics, which ran successfully at the 2006 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and Teeth, an educational ESL children's musical, which has run 5 times in Seoul. She resides between Seoul, South Korea, and Denver, Colorado, where she is an actor, director and voice actor. 

She founded the Seoul City Improv comedy group in 2007, and SCI has since toured throughout Korea, and to Taiwan, Tokyo, Hong Kong & Beijing. Margaret graduated from Colorado College with a degree in Drama, cum laude.

Spring
2012

Margaret is currently directing The Zoo Story by Edward Albee for Permanent Transient Productions, running at Spark Theater March 23 - April 8th. Margaret was also invited to be a member of the Visionbox Actors Ensemble. She also directed a staged reading of Get On With It at Curious Theatre, as part of the Curious New Voices program. In April & May, Margaret will assistant direct The Othello Project at Visionbox, under the direction of Jennifer McCray Rincon. Denver's Next Improv Star continues at the Bovine Metropolis, and Margaret is still in the running!

Winter 2011~2012

Margaret just signed with Maximum Talent, one of Denver's top talent agencies. She also works as an Assistant Director at Visionbox, a new professional actor training program in Denver. In February, Maggie will compete in Denver's Next Improv Star, a show at the Bovine Metropolis Theater, 1527 Champa St. Check it out every Saturday night at 8pm starting February 18th! 2011


The Canadian Fringe Festival project was a great success!

Congrats to ShLong Form Improv and Suicide(s) in Vegas for 4 glorious months!
ShLong Form Improv will tour back to Colorado through the month of October.

Summer 2011


The Canadian Fringe Festival project is about to begin!
Suicide(s) in Vegas and ShLong Form Improv will depart for Montreal on June 6th, and tour continuously through London, Toronto, Hamilton, Saskatoon, Calgary, Edmonton, Victoria and Vancouver til September 18th.

Additionally, Seoul City Improv will perform at the 3rd Annual Colorado Improv Festival in Colorado Springs June 2-5. En route to Canada, ShLong Form Improv will perform in Denver June 5th and Omaha June 6th.


Spring 2011


Seoul City Improv will perform extensively in Korea throughout March and April, in Daegu, Seoul, Daejeon, and Cheonan. Additionally, SCI will tour to Beijing for the 3rd Annual Beijing International Interactive Arts Festival April 18-25. And in May, Seoul City Improv will host the 1st Annual Seoul International Improv Festival, with improv in English, Korean, Japanese and Chinese. Members of Seoul City Improv will then tour the Canadian Fringe Festival circuit summer 2011.


Margaret will also premiere an original play by Canadian playwright Evan Placey titled Suicide(s) in Vegas. Suicide(s) will run in Seoul April 28-May 1 at the White Box Theatre, and MW Productions will produce. Suicide will then tour the Canadian Fringe Festival circuit summer 2011.


Winter 2010~2011


Margaret directed in November and acted in December for the monthly event Hitching Post Theater, produced by Rock Rose Entertainment at the Nomad Theater in Boulder, CO. She also starred in the short film Beckoned, directed by Ian Kellett, which will be released in Spring 2011. Margaret will direct two short staged readings of original works for the Curious New Voices series at Curious Theatre in February. Margaret will also perform with Seoul City Improv at the 1st Annual Hong Kong Improv Festival March 3-5, hosted by People's Liberation Improv.


Fall 2010


Seoul City Improv has been invited to the Tokyo Impro Festival 2010 in Japan! The Festival is November 24-28, and is hosted by ImproJapan. Seven SCI performers will attend the festival over Thanksgiving weekend. There will be shows and workshops, and over 80 improvisers from Japan and America in attendance, including Improv Boston.

Summer 2010


Margaret directed and produced The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (photos) for Seoul Players in May & June. It was Seoul Players first musical, a complete sell-out show, and widely regarded as the best Seoul Players production in its 10 year history. Additionally, Margaret produced and performed in the 3 Year Anniversary Show for Seoul City Improv. Margaret founded the group in July 2007, and the 3 Year Show was a sell-out success at the beautiful new Spazio Luce Theater in Itaewon. Congrats to all Seoul City Improvisers for 3 wonderfully hilarious years!


Spring 2010


Margaret had a very productive spring. In April she hosted and produced the 3rd annual Seoul Players 24 Hour Theatre, with over 50 participants, 10 short plays, and over 120 audience members. Also in April she toured Seoul City Improv to
Taiwan, for a joint show with Taichung Improv. Seoul City Improv was a giant success with the Taiwanese and expat audience.

Fall 2009

Margaret is currently starring in a children's television show in
Seoul. The show is Play with Science, which airs on Kids Talk Talk, a channel on the Skylife Network. The show is an educational program about science, with 15 minutes episodes like 'Why do we have eyebrows?' and 'Why do our tummies grumble?'. The show runs three times a day, Monday to Friday in Seoul at 8:30AM, 2:00PM, and 6:30PM. It will run for 26 weeks, until the middle of November. Margaret plays Brainy, a fairy witch who knows EVERYTHING about science, and helps the other characters, Juju and Joy, understand the concepts. Margaret also provides the voice of the character Tong Tong, and voices characters in the short cartoon segments in every episode. Here is the website (it's all in Korean!)

Margaret also recently completed a commercial for Sky cell phones. The commercial is playing all over
South Korea. It's even on the sides of buildings and in the ads before movies! View the commerical!
